President Trump: The NEW one and only politics thread

What I tried to tell my wife in 2016 (who was despondent about the voters' choice) was that people don't realize how much the President (executive branch) controls in our federal government; each and every dept. has an appointed head, who gets to set policy and budget. Now Congress can control the budget but that's it and so long as its not unconstitutional, the Trumpists can do almost everything they want. Now Barr and the DOJ went over the line (I believe) and obstructed justice, but short of that, they still got to exercise their discretion.

Now, we get to see the stench made when the CDC is directionless, when DeVos is privatizing education, Mnuchin is making stimulus checks a fundraiser for Trump. Govt. at its worst. Who has to go are obviously the appointed agency heads and those that the heads appointed. Now the others, the lifers who stayed on and tried, you don't get rid of them simply because they had to follow Barr's/DeVos'/Mnunchin's directions, unfortunately that's what they're supposed to do. As you can see from Fauci, he's trying his best but he can't do it independently. Don't blame those people, they're probably good civil servants.

 

There comes a point where being good at your job runs up against being good as a person, and the CDC personnel are up against that line now.

 

I agree totally, and we are going to need all of their names for future action.

 

True - but if you are a career public health scientist working for the CDC, quitting in the middle of the biggest pandemic in a century has to be extremely difficult.

If they really are going to change safety recommendations without any reason but President Trump's order, they aren't serving much of a purpose.

Before the board split, I used to get crap for suggesting white men should lose all civil rights. Increasingly obvious it's the only path to national survival.

 

It's been a year of bad news. I expect this will be bad news too.

 

I so wouldn’t be getting my hopes up on this topic.
