Most school budgets for 2020-21 have already been passed. In the short run, the increased federal aid is needed if schools are going to re-open fully. If they re-open fully, there is no issue regarding federal funding. If they are all virtual, they don't need additional funding. That actually saves money in comparison to the normal budget for a school district. If they go with a hybrid, that mitigates some of the extra expense because reducing the number of students in the building at a given time also reduces the need for additional materials and personnel that would be needed to go back to full capacity daily.

It certainly isn't good for schools if President Trump makes good on his threat, but man would that be a bad look politically for him right now. You also have to remember that states and school districts can always wait to see what happens in November and, if necessary, change course.

FDR kept boats in the North Atlantic and helped protect a British convoy that was under attack. When our ship was hit, FDR screamed that we were attacked by the Germans.

Hitler wanted no part of us at the time, but FDR knew once one of our ships was hit and men killed, we were in the war. If he didn't want us in the war, we would have had no ships in the North Atlantic, much less protecting British ships.

I might be mistaken, but the case they're ruling on isn't really in the judgement phase - I was under the impression it was still in the discovery / pre-trial stage. After this ruling, I'm assuming Trump's accountants will have to hand over records or come with some other line of argument about why they can't, but I'm not sure what you wanted the Supreme Court to do here. They can't just give the State of N.Y. some Instant Win status. (The popular assumption, though, is that there has to be something legally or reputation-damaging in the requested records, otherwise, they would have just handed them over X months ago.)

What the Supreme Court does most, always has and always will, is say "That's not our problem." It refuses to take a huge majority of cases appealed to it.

The Berman testimony on his firing is all kinds of batshit. Barr wanted him out immediately and when Berman asked for the weekend to discuss with his senior staff, Barr didn’t say anything and instead issued a statement that night that Berman resigned.
