I'd be fine if they just added DC residents to Maryland or Virgina and Puerto Rico to Florida's for representation in DC. Maybe they don't get their "own" but they will not be ignored - add them in for EV votes as well. (though DC already is). Figure DC would have at least a couple congressional districts and PR would have about 10 or so.

I didn't realize you still had to add a slave state for a free state.

    1) Plenty of states, obviously, have been added. During the early days, specifically the 1800s, there were also plenty of considerations given to political balance when adding them, like Kansas/Nebraska, Missouri/Maine and even Alaska/Hawaii. Maintaining a political balance has almost always been part of adding states or not adding them. The talk of adding them now is wholly designed to push the balance toward Democrats.

    2) If Biden or Harris, or the leading members of the Democratic Party (Chuck Schumer has also strongly hinted at doing it), have no plans to expand the Supreme Court, then why don't they just say it? Give a flat denial and paint it as more right-wing nonsense. Instead we get Biden's ridiculous, "If I answer the question, that's going to be your headline" response, and, "You'll know after the election."
The latter sounds a lot like Nancy Pelosi's infamous, "You have to pass the bill to know what's in it" comment.
It's obviously something they have on their agenda, and they don't want to get painted into a corner on it until there's nothing anyone can do to stop it.

If the Court throws out the ACA, it will get packed by a President Biden and a Democratic Senate the very next day. And rightly so.
The creation of North and South Dakota in the 1880s was a straightforward move by Republicans to control the Senate in response to the solid Democratic bloc of the former Confederate states. I mean, nothing against either of those fine if sparsely populated states, but I've been to both and man are they REALLY alike.

Except, if it goes the way you want it to, Trump will be president. He or his party have made it clear they don't just intend to take the country in a different way, they intend to change the longstanding rules of government and the system of checks and balances. Hell, they've already changed the longstanding rules of government and the checks and balances!

You're OK with that, just to keep Trump? Knowing full damn well the frightening consequences that would ensue?

So add in all those people but no more senators? No thanks. It is unconscionable that in 2020 the people who live in DC are not represented on the federal level.

Given that Orangeface and his cult have zero respect for the people, its laws, its government and democracy and revel in cruelty and one of the ugliest power trips in this country's history? Absolutely.

Not to sound like a 2-year-old, but the GOP - or at least the Trump cult from within - started this. Funny how the Right always claims the Left is too soft and isn't willing to punch back. NOW the Democrats have made clear they will punch back and we get the political equivalent of "The Sky Is Falling." Make up your f_cking mind ... or are you waiting for Trump and the Fox News idiots to form your next narrative?

Or, as Azrael perfectly summarized it ... FFS.

oh no! They’re trying to destroy the system of checks and balances by ... *checks notes* using one of the checks and balances explicitly written into the constitution.

you have absolutely, positively no idea how hilarious it is that you think this argument has any sway with liberals after what happened to merrick garland and the complete refusal to follow up on the standard set there.

The Republican President was elected despite the majority of the people voting against him. The Republican senate was elected despite the majority of people voting against them. The Supreme Court is about to feature a majority of justices appointed by presidents whose opponents got more votes.

and that’s not even getting into the way McConnell tore apart long-standing traditions to pack the lower courts.

At every step of the way, we were told “sucks to be you, it’s in the Constitution says we can do this, so we are doing it.”

now that Democrats want to use the same Constitutional rules to make sure that government actually represents the will of the people, you want to say how mean and unfair it is?

i have literally never been more amused by a political argument. Please post some variation of it every day to lift my spirits.
