This one's different. If you get it and don't die, there's some degree of future invulnerability. The extent of the future immunity is not yet known, but look at Trump. He gets the best medical care in the world, recovers in less than a week and immediately decrees, "Don't be afraid of it." He's the lord and savior of these people. Trumpists who get sick but recover are not necessarily going to "get religion." They may become more brazen and more contemptuous of restrictions.
When Steve Scalise got shot and nearly killed, he did not convert to gun control. He viewed his experience as an opportunity to double down.
