Making ambassadorships a civil service job for career State Dept. employees selected by the President would be a real step towards better government no President, Democrat or Republican, would ever support. I suppose there are some embassies where the other country is important enough to have an ambassador with the political clout to speak to the President directly, like China, but those are few and far between. The ambassador's house in Paris is great, but it shouldn't be a reward for giving your party megabucks.

You raise valid issues. It all comes back to the fact that to the history of this country the people who have assumed the office the presidency have, for the most part, observed behavioral norms that did not jeopardize the country. We never knew how vulnerable we were until Trump became president

Got to love the Rick Scott number. Scuzzier than Trump.

You're not wrong. We already moved the inauguration from March to January because, among other reasons, travel got better. We do need a transition time, but it could be shorter without hindering the newcomer too much because a lot of the planning can be started before the election, especially if the incumbent isn't running.

That said, you can't move it as much as I think you are proposing. First, you need to allow states time to certify elections. If there are legitimate challenges, that date gets pushed into the grace period allowed. Then you actually need to get the EVs together. And you need to allow for there not being a clear EV winner. Yeah that hasn't happened since 1876, but one faithless elector in 2000 would have done it. And you run into holidays.

TLDR: It’s the Federal Reserve’s fault.

I kinda hope Moscow Mitch and his merry band of aggrieved white men and the racist women who love them block all of Biden’s appointments. Nothing will put an end to Biden’s penchant for quixotic bipartisanship dreams quicker.
