    You have to actually give aid and comfort to a nominally foreign enemy.

    Technically, civilian penalties for sedition are up to 20 years in prison. It’s more serious in the military version — anyone convicted at court martial for violations of Article 94 (attempted mutiny, mutiny, sedition, or failure to suppress or report a mutiny or sedition) faces sanctions up to and including the death penalty.
