I don't think that there are many women who have an abortion who are not dealing with a lot of internal conflict, moral misgivings, and great personal pain as they do so. It's not something you do lightly, or that is in any way pleasant. Most women who do so do it out of necessity, not for convenience.

The vast majority of those who want to forbid her to do it are not willing to adopt that baby, or to pay a little more tax to help support it, let alone to help the mother or provide assistance with child care. They value the rights of a fetus far more than the care of the actual baby that results from their policies. They'll limit sex education and contraception. They'll say that people should take responsibility for their actions, but when a woman makes the wrenching decision that she is not ready to or able to have a baby and care for it, they want to force her to.

That's called "keeping big government out of our lives".
