This is all true. What the SBC can do is when you lose a pastor, they can recommend one, or even send you a temporary fill-in if your pastor is ill or away for an extended period.

My wife's family church went through this a few years ago (the pastor died), and they had guest preachers for several weeks before choosing one of those. But it was totally up to the congregation.

The individual church building is owned by the membership. There is no parish or archdiocese as in other denominations.

That decentralized structure is why Moore is in trouble (and regardless of the happy face everyone put on this week, he's still in trouble). The SBC's bureaucracy and missions work gets funded by what its member churches send in. If enough of the big shot churches don't pony up, they start to feel the pinch in a hurry.

Cran, I really think partisanship is affecting your judgment here. I don't think the release of that information fragment will have any effect on politics at all, for or against Trump. After all, he bragged about not paying taxes during the first debate to an audience of 60 million people and it didn't hurt him by Election Day. We can't have reporters deciding how information they obtain should be treated based on political calculations. 1. It's wrong. 2. The political calculations they use might be wrong, too.

Has nothing to do with partisanship and everything to do with a disdain for crappy reporting from people more interested in getting a "scoop" than fully understanding that they were being used by people with an agenda.

If they did not go with it, someone else would have been sent a copy. The 24 hour news cycle has to be fed, and if they didn't run with it, someone else would have.

Agreed with Gee. The politics and ramifications of a story aren't our call. It's to report it. Because when you stop and think of it, everything has ramifications we can't deal with. If Fluffy is named Pet of the Week, that could send Mittens to the gas chamber because no one adopted him. Won't anyone think of poor Mittens?

He should have only used it if it made the president look bad.

Is it possible the Maddow hypetrain and 10-plus minutes of lecturing before revealing the two pages is coloring your opinion of it? If it was "Oh, here are some pages of Trump's tax returns from 2005 and the White House confirmed they're legit ... now onto other headlines" would you be as bothered by it?

And people accuse me of being humorless. But yes, go hide behind the button and continue in your place as woodwork.
