One of the most tragic stories I've ever heard from the directors from a local women's shelter was about a woman who came to them completely at a loss with what to do because she was coming to full term, didn't have any money, wasn't ready to have a child and had sought help for an abortion but was talked out of it by a religious person. She was told to just have faith and God would provide, but the bills were coming due and she was not seeing the manna coming down from heaven. She was pleading with the women's shelter directors for help because none of the religious organization was offering any assistance except prayer.

I lost a lot of respect for a few people at my church that day because they were passing the hat for that same organization (for the life of me I'm not going to remember the name of it) to help disciple expected mothers.

Uh, yeah, that's kind of the given outcome, right?

I think the idea is that he would veto any later bills that make his desk. He's talked before about letting the ACA collapse on its own, and with the vandalism already done to it, it would.

Not necessarily. For one thing, any collapse would be on him. For another, the Medicaid expansion, by far the biggest part of those who benefit, would remain in place. It'll pass tomorrow though. Ryan's career is over if it doesn't. Then we're on to the Senate, which if you recall was always supposed to be the hard part.
If they do this, the Republicans are fools. I mean, they could go back to their districts in serious danger of physical violence. That's BEFORE electoral danger. Just pass the tax cut, shake hands and go home.

You're right, @Michael_ Gee . They're totally fucked, either way.

You, me and anyone with sense enough to come in out of the rain might do it that way, sure. But this isn't a man who makes sane, sober choices. Think how much he has lost touch with reality just since the campaign, when we didn't think he could get any crazier.

So, they made an awful bill and made it even worse. And there's more negotiating.

I'm with others that it will still pass on Friday. But how? What votes are going to flip that they didn't have today?

And Donnie, quite the dealmaker there. Again showing what everyone in New York had known forever. He's a fraud.
