If she was able to testify publicly, what's to stop her just saying what she was going to say in public?

Most likely some sort of legal/security confidentiality that she breaks by speaking in public. If she were questioned under oath by Congress she would be compelled to testify.

I read the WaPo story. Her lawyers rejected any hold over her on executive privilege grounds, and the White House seems to be arguing an AG is the same as the President's personal lawyer. Not so. Much more dramatic to testify publicly under oath of course. And there's always the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

She'll get her testimony out. This is just another clumsy move by Nunes (or whoever in the WH is pulling his strings, which is worse if true). He didn't stop her. All this will do is call attention to her testimony before she gives it.

Again, if called to testify, it looks less like grinding an axe or self-aggrandizement, and adds dramatic value, weight, and credibility. "Fired Former AG Testifies Before House Intelligence Committee ".

Was about to post the same. Nunes is milking these moments like the cows back in Tulare County, though.

He has yet to milk any of them in a way that makes him look smart and capable.

You know who must Nunes the very most right now? His opposite number in the Senate, Burr. Burr was following the traditional and very safe route of burying a politically problematic investigation -- just use the typical glacial pace of Congressional operations to preclude results in the reasonable hope it'll all blow over in the end. Now, all Nunes' fumbles come back to his committee, too. Now reporters will be pestering Burr as well as Nunes. Now he wishes Nunes would get hit by a bus.

    What's the missing word there?

"hate." I am a bad typist. If the word's in my head, it sometimes doesn't get to my fingers before the next word.

More to the point: It makes it very unlikely (and far more difficult to convince even her opponents) that she's lying. Not many people are willing to risk perjury charges.

As of now, Trumpists can soothe themselves by saying she's a shrew with a made-up story.
