Your years of experience as a page designer at a newspaper informs that opinion?

Yes.

 

What photos are available? Do they fit the space (vertical, horizontal)? Does the paper have a photog at the event or is it using AP or Reuters or another service? How many other pages is the designer working on at the same time? How close to deadline are you?

The idea some page designer is thinking "Hmmm, how can I make Obama look angelic?" while he or she is cranking out pages is laughable to anybody who's seen them at work.

 

It's not an editorial decision? LOL.

A. There are hundreds of photos available of both Obama and Trump, including publicity photos.

2. The angelic photos of Obama during the 2008 campaign was not happenstance

Trump was complaining about a stock photo NBC was using repeatedly. NBC said at the meeting that they are now using a better, more flattering photo.

Honestly, just save yourself some time and effort and just post that over and over.
