People in Venezuela, like in the USSR previously, have lost weight, across the board due to a lack of food.

My big question is this: is there a single policy that was enacted in Venezuela, that liberals in America -- if unchecked -- wouldn't have implemented here?

Huge differences. Latin American populists such as Chavez abandoned free market pricing and arbitrarily set prices. This lead to the shortages described. No Democratic President would have attempted the massive interventions in the economy that Chavez did. And I am unaware of any Western European Social Democratic or Socialist party that does. The supermarkets are full in Sweden.
