    I'm not a historian, and I don't play one on TV, but that view, while convenient in framing today's events, is not correct. In his later years Davis became relatively popular -- far more popular than he had been as President of the CSA -- as a result of his becoming the symbol of the "Lost Cause" myth.

    IMO, Comey's 11th-hour re-"opening" of the emails case wouldn't have been nearly as gasp-worthy had Weiner not been part of the story.

    You're tangling up who did it with why they did it. The "Lost Cause" myth was never forwarded as a defense of/justification for segregation, although segregation certainly followed neatly from it.
