Two major differences between what is in that report and what is being alleged here. 1) Russia's alleged activity was state sponsored. Not private interests trying to influence elections. 2) Russia isn't accused of simply spending money to support various causes. It is being accused of creating a disinformation campaign.

I posted something on this thread a while back saying that lots of entities try to influence elections, with all kinds of motives. It doesn't bother me that much. The reactionary response to that is to try to legislate or regulate information. And that frightens me way more than the alternative. Let Russia try to spread disinformation. It is incumbent on our candidates to COUNTER that disinformation -- the way free and open societies do it. It should be much less of a big deal moving forward in that the cow is already out of the barn. Candidates should be prepared to deal with it. ... and voters can't pretend they are in the dark; they either are prepared to read things with a healthy dose of skepticism and choose their sources of information carefully, or they just don't give a shit. It's up to each of us.

Apples and Oranges in terms of meddling, just no Canadian Politics thread to post it to. :)

I know the cash involved is dwarfed by money in US elections but these groups are circumventing Canadian law.

That's ok. A lot of people in their socioeconomic groups own guns. At some point they'll start putting them to good use.

And all Starr found, after years of investigating and $48 million spent, was that Clinton lied under oath about his sex life.

The former head of the CIA said today there was intelligence suggesting collusion between Trump campaign and Russia, so it was passed on to the FBI for investigation, the investigation we have now. He said he informed the Congressional leadership of both parties about it last summer. He also mused, a thing people seldom do under oath, on how traitors wind up getting that way. I don't think that's any good for Trump's people at all. If the House caucus had any brains, it'd try to get ahead of this before the next leaked shoes drop, the ones about Russian involvement in House elections in 2016.

They were understaffed? That's a good one ... now do one for the "Frozen" meme that came out a few days later.

And to think it was just last week he threw them all under the bus regarding why Comey was fired. Damn, those training wheels might be ready to come off.

He's not embarassing us. Is that how low the bar's been set? Sheesh.

Because we must remain eternally vigilant regarding our original goal: What's his real golf score?
