Ninety percent of the electorate votes the same party every time. These are also the voters most likely to use early voting, because their minds are made up. Chances are the number of people who cast a vote for Gianforte and now want a do-over is not large. They voted early because they vote Republican, period. Same goes for early votes for the Democrat.

Ben Carson says ‘poverty is a state of mind’

I'll preface this by saying that I think that Ben Carson is an absolute whack job. But I kind of get where he was coming from with this.

My grandmother raised two kids after my grandfather died when my mom was 7. My grandmother had no education and put food on the table by working in sweat shops for shitty pay. Something my uncle once said to me, stuck with me. He said they were incredibly poor, but he never realized how poor they were. It was a combination of things: my grandmother, of course and the home she set up with what they had. But also (and maybe more important) the world was much insular then, and they lived in a neighborhood in which everyone around them was in the same boat. There wasn't the same kind of mass media for my mom or uncle to be comparing themselves to wealthier people elsewhere.

I think that is where Ben Carson is coming from (although who knows what is in his whack job head). At the same time, he has a tin ear. You need to be really careful about how you express thoughts like that, because people are outraged so easily.

Fox and Friends is contradicting account of Gianforte's assault provided by Fox News crew members, including reporter they won't put on the air.

The cops they pledge their undying devotion and gratitude to must be lying.

Just for reference. Ben Jacobs. Guardian reporter. Man of danger.

He's totally the same as someone who advocates the ethnic cleansing of North America.

If anti-fascists are free to sucker punch Spencer, who do I get to punch?

The Guardian reporter remains incredibly calm throughout the assault and the aftermath. It's really quite something.

Go ahead and find out. If whoever you choose is as universally despicable as a Nazi, I doubt you'll get much flak.

Is this laying the groundwork for a "that reporter was a paid Soros plant!" defense?
