Not as great as the bailouts.

 

It is feasible that United Technologies (which owns Carrier) would be susceptibleto political pressure. Whats the pressure? #boycottCarrier? POTUS can't unilaterally impose tariffs or raise taxes. POTUS can't legitimately interfere with the business contracting with the Department of Defense, although that is most likely the manuveur that would work.

This has somehow morphed into paying them to keep half of the jobs here - because a thousand are still going to Mexico. And this is just the first company, because everyone is going to want a piece of this if they were considering offshoring jobs.

Obama sees the bigger picture. Trump walks around his Country CLub and screams about the placement of ash trays. THat works for a small, closely held business. Is Trump now personally obligated to save job? Why Carrier and Indiana, why not X Mining Corp in West Virginia? Because it conflicts with Y Mining Corp in Wyoming, among other reasons.

I know, right? What small business in their right mind wants to keep their premiums lower? I know my firm, a small business of about 40 employees, loves the fact our premiums are going up 33% starting in January. It's just so awesome.
