Are you saying states should make decisions based on what is best for them?

Isn't that great? I guess states should refuse FOIA requests if they don't like how journalists would use the information provided.

Not the social security numbers. That's what they want.

No. They want all of the publicly available data. The letter is very clear. You should read it.

When campaigns canvass for signatures, needed to get on the ballot, do you know what they use?

Publicly available lists of registered voters, that include the name, address, and party affiliation.

They'll be used for other reasons too.

    Politics thread drinking game:

Every time YF says "LOL," drink.

If he says "LOL" on the same page twice, finish your drink.

If there's an "LOL" and "Link?" on the same page, drink twice.

If there's an "LOL" and "Link?" in the same post, rob a liquor store.

So there's no reason for the government to ask for this information. They just don't want to work as hard to suppress votes. Very Trumpy.

Only proving what I said, and what Inky has not conceded.

Kobach told the Kansas City Star on Friday that he would not be providing any parts of Kansas voters' Social Security numbers because that data is not publicly available under state law. "In Kansas, the Social Security number is not publicly available," he said. "Every state receives the same letter, but we’re not asking for it if it’s not publicly available."
