The question isn't whether or not they should have reported stories that would have gotten folks killed, it's whether they should have maintained a bureau that had to cover up the real news, leaving it with no journalistic mission.

That's not what I would consider "fake news." The "fake news" that I'm referring to is on Web sites with titles like Patriot News and Occupy Democrats that make up salacious news from nearly whole cloth, like Comet Ping Pong running a child sex ring or Brock Turner embarking on a paid speaking tour.

Do you need me to concede that it is a problem when legitimate news outlets get stories wrong? OK. It is a problem when legitimate news outlets get stories wrong. But that's different than what's being referred to here.

 

I guess you wouldn't have any college beat writers if they aren't writing or investigating NCAA infraction stories every day then.

While I'm largely in agreement with you here, I could see how someone might see it as a difference of degree rather than of kind.

Sometimes a problem comes along that transcends your "both sides! Laundry uber alles" mentality. A number of people on the Republican side tried to help explain this to you during the campaign, but he won and all we can do is hope he can be managed by those around him.
