I've never punched anyone in my entire adult life.

 

It's been a while.

 

The bill says drivers are not protected from liability if they are "willful or wanton" in plowing over pedestrians, but are protected if they are exercising "due care" and hit someone who is "participating in a protest or demonstration and blocking traffic in a public street or highway."

The measure includes language barring immunity if a driver strikes a pedestrian who has “a valid permit” allowing a protest in the public street "where the injury occurred."

 

I'm not sure I have either, though I can think of two I received.

 

I genuinely don't know how to reconcile my logical, better self with my resilient gut feeling that some people just need to get punched. I know violence isn't the answer. I sometimes still feel like violence is the answer.

 

Four or five idiots decided today was a good day to wave battle flags at the busiest intersection in town. Cops didn't waste much time in citing them for loitering.

 

The ACLU of Virginia criticizes both sides.

You're better at car finance than legislative reporting. This bill passed the House, true, but it promptly got buried in committee by the Senate. You probably should punch out the parliamentarian.

I have covered rebel flag rallies in a former life.
The cops at those demonstrations always seemed a little uneasy.
And that was in an atmosphere considerably less charged than this one.
