Even the majority of Fucko's supporters have no illusion he's a "nice guy."

The most common at least superficially logical argument I've seen in favor of Fucko is that yeah, he's abrasive, selfish, greedy, confrontational, disruptive, divisive, obnoxious and polarizing, but he's gonna do all that to get things that I want, so he's great.

"He's an asshole, but he's our asshole."

Almost nobody actually thinks he has any personal concern or empathy for anybody else. Only the utterly hopeless suckers.

 

Trump doesn't seem to have any friends. Even his fellow billionaires despise him.

And he doesn't even have a dog. Probably because the dog would shit in his shoes every other day.

 

The idea that Bush somehow failed in responding to Katrina is the biggest bunch of bullshit ever.

A hurricane that made landfall in Mississippi, swamped New Orleans, because a city and state, run by democrat, and the boards they appointed, were corrupt, and failed to do the bare minimum to maintain the levees.

City and state institutions melted away like Saddam Hussein's Iraqi military.

There was no functioning local government. The cops didn't show up. The mayor -- who later went to jail -- didn't know what to do. The city and state couldn't coordinate with each other, and the state resisted federal help.

They failed to evacuate even the people in the lowest lying areas, and it was a failed "chocolate city" with so many folks locked into dependency, that they had no means to evacuate if they wanted to. Many didn't own a car, and many didn't have any money, as their government check was day away.

The federal governments response was the only thing that did work. The Coast Guard saved a bunch of people.

FEMA was never supposed to be a first responder agency. Everyone knew, and understood this prior to Katrina.

But, since the corrupt politicians who failed were all Democrats, a narrative was created that blamed George W. Bush.

It was bullshit then, and it's bullshit now.

 

Dueling narratives:

- Trump has no friends
- Trump roams the White House at night, calling personal friends, from his cell phone.

Reminds me of my other favorite instance of dueling narratives:

- Trump isn't a businessman, and has no deals anywhere. All he does is license his name at this point
- Trump has deals all over the world, which create all kinds of conflicts, and many of them involve RUSSIANS!! or Russian funding, or something.

 

You got conned.

 

Except that the people Trump interacted with and comforted today did buy it. They liked him. They took selfies with him. They appreciated his visit and support.

So, maybe the public image -- which is a media creation -- is false. maybe he is a caring, empathetic guy, who knows how to, and is able to, connect with people.

 

Here's the secret no one wants to admit, Trump was poplar in New York with media types, who are, obviously, overwhelmingly liberal.

Morning Mika fucking liked the guy.

He would go to their book parties, and praise the author. Trump was known for being gracious and flattering.

Now, everyone pretends like they never liked the guy, or invited him to their events.

 

While Mr. Trump still reaches out to allies outside the administration — especially old friends and associates like Corey Lewandowski, a former campaign manager; Richard LeFrak, a fellow developer originally from Queens; Mr. Bannon and a handful of others — more often than not it has been through the White House switchboard and not on his personal phone. And Mr. Kelly has usually listened in on the calls, according to two people with direct knowledge.
