Might be nice to recall how this was introduced:

“Now let’s be clear: this is not an amnesty,” Mr. Obama said in the Rose Garden, anticipating the Republican response. “This is not a path to citizenship. It is not a permanent fix.
    ...
For immigrants who come forward and qualify, Homeland Security authorities will use prosecutorial discretion to grant deferred action, a reprieve that will be valid for two years and will have to be renewed. Under current law, that status allows immigrants to apply for work permits.

In a memorandum issued Friday referring to the students, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano instructed all enforcement agents to “immediately exercise their discretion, on an individual basis, in order to prevent low-priority individuals from being placed into removal proceedings.”
    ...
Immigrant student leaders praised Mr. Obama, saying his action should convince other students that advocacy could be effective, even for immigrants without legal status. Although the reprieve is temporary, the leaders said they expected that the majority of students would seize the opportunity to work and come out into the open.

If you like your non-amnesty you can keep it.

Did moving shit through Congress just start becoming hard lately, or has it ever been thus, even with "unified" control?

Governor Cuomo of New York is threatening to sue if Trump ends DACA.

Now, first of all, my understanding is that at most, what Trump will do is not renew anyone's temporary status. If he stops renewing this status in sex months, that means folks will still have this temporary status for another 6-30 months. That's plenty of time for Congress to act.

But, how do you sue over the ending of a temporary policy, that will have been in effect for 5 1/2 years, granting people status for up to 7 1/2 years?

How in the world could a court force a temporary policy to remain in effect?

I think it's fair to ask for all of Melania Trump's immigration files. Did she lie to become a citizen. Was fraud used to procure her entry into this country and or was fraud used to keep her here

I'm curious, because I don't lean conservative and have almost never voted Republican: Do you think what you'd call a tremendous triumph could have happened without the accompanying disaster? And what would that have looked like?

I'm sure the states that sued over Obama's attempt to expand it have some PowerPoints they could share.

While we're at it, how about the alleged citizenship of the criminal Rupert Murdoch, secured through fraud and bribery during the Reagan regime for the purpose of tax evasion?

Here's the thing about liberals: supporting government policies absolves them of their guilt, lets them feel good about themselves, and means they don't have to put their money where their mouth is.

Take Apple's Tim Cook. Who could do more than someone like Tim Cook to improve immigrants lives in America?

So, sure, Tim Cook supports DACA. Great.

But -- and the Times' story is worth reading for a number of reasons -- if Tim Cook really wanted to make a difference, and lead by example, he could get rid of the contractors, and hire janitors, cafeteria workers, security guards and others as Apple employees. He could give them benefits, and advancement opportunities that would allow them to lead the American Dream.

He could even manufacture more goods in America.

Where's the campaign to get Tim Cook to do this? Why isn't he under pressure to pay a living wage, with good health insurance, and benefits to cafeteria workers, janitors and security guards?

Probably not, sadly, because Trump was the only one who could have beaten Hillary. He showed it in the primaries. Every other candidate folded the minute the usual accusations and criticism started popping up, and that would have been ramped up even more in the general election. They tried it with Trump and he just walked right through it like the Terminator.
Unfortunately, that left us with a very flawed president associated with a party whose leadership resents him for doing what they couldn't.

If, somehow, Cruz had been the candidate and won it might not be as bad. He's a little more established, could probably work the process better and get more accomplished. But after seeing how he collapsed once Trump genuinely started going after him in the primaries, I don't know that he could have stood up to what the Dems would have thrown at him in the election.
