Moore does not know how to keep a low profile. Things that he says which he thinks are normal and uncontroversial will bite him in the ass, and if someone can get him to talk about homosexuality, gay marriage, or abortion he'll really stick out. He's a publicity hound and a bomb thrower, that's his schtick.

Doug Jones is a Democrat running in Alabama, and that's a heavy lift. He's also a common sense guy, a former U.S. Attorney. There are a lot of Republican voters who are appalled by the idea of being represented by Moore. There is a well-founded sense that he's going to go to Washington, embarrass the state, and be sat in the corner to rot. No good committee assignments, no bringing home the bacon. He's going to be a huge pain in McConnell's ass, and no one knows the ropes in the Senate better than McConnell. Moore's only leverage will be as an additional Freedom caucus vote. That means two things regarding the actual Senate vote: People, including some Republicans, are going to go to the polls to vote against Moore (Do not underestimate his negatives. He's strong with the rabid right, but the normal Republicans don't like him) or they are going to stay home and not vote at all. This is a special election, there is no other reason to go vote. The Democratic supporters are looking around and realizing that this is the first chance in forever that they have an actual chance to elect a Senator. It's still probably 60-40 against Jones, but that's far better than the usual 80-20 or worse.

If the Democratic National Committee will give him money, leave him alone and let him run, he's got a chance. If they send down Obama, Chuck and Nancy, he's dead. They are going to have to restrain their eagerness to force this, because the more they do, the more the Alabama Republican voters are going to bow up to stop it from happening. That's part of what cost Luther Strange, McConnell's PAC carpet bombed TV and radio here, and that was taken as outsiders trying to tell the Alabama voters what to do. Probably the biggest thing that sunk Strange locally was the Bentley investigation obstruction, although he was a horrible candidate as well, but McConnell was very heavy handed, as well as not getting the Obamacare repeal done. He got zero traction.

 

I don't think the Democrats will send anything but money to Jones. Campaign head is former Clinton-Gore guy Joe Trippi. Told the Post they were going to run bio-oriented campaign. To do that, any candidate needs to have their national party leave them alone.

 

The Jones Act requires American crews to work on ships sailing between American ports. So repealing the law and letting foreign workers work on the ships which does save money, But wasn't Trump elected to protect American jobs,
