You're avoiding the real issue again: It's Trump lying yet again, making shit up on the spot to boast about how great he is.

Which doesn't mean it was wildly inappropriate or disrespectful, nor that it was intended that way.

The media -- including the media in the room -- defended the previous presidents immediately. And, while there was some general sense that previous presidents had made calls, written letters, and met with families, no one in that room had the facts to back up their indignation.

It's been a couple of days. Folks have been quick to track down the families of those killed under Trump. Are they going to do the same with previous presidents, so that their opinion becomes an informed one, based in fact?

I don't "support" the politicization of any Gold Star families. But it's their prerogative, as it was Cindy Sheehan's, to use that status to achieve the ends they seek.

And, yes, it was Trump's prerogative to respond as he so chose. Just like it's mine and others' prerogative to correctly state he acted like a disrespectful toddler, not a commander in chief.

It was received that way. That's what matters.

One of the first things you learn in communications classes is that the quality of your message means nothing if it doesn't reach and resonate with the intended audience.

YF isn't offering a blanket defense of Trump. He's defending Trump against an extreme position that Trump must have taunted and/or said something inappropriate to a Gold Star spouse. The evidence and critical thinking does not support this extreme position.

What do you mean "[t]hat's what matters"? People are this upset because they think Trump had inappropriate motives, i.e. that he was insensitive or even demeaning. They aren't upset because he was awkward.
