For many lower-middle-class homeowners, who bought homes for less than $200,000 in flyover country, the doubling of the standard deduction means many of them won't itemize anyway.

So the loss of the mortgage interest deduction won't affect those folks.

 

Let’s not let facts get in the way of our outrage here.

 

Sounds about right

 

They are phasing out the mortgage interest deduction for middle class taxpayers to increase tax revenues to offset or pay for lower rates for top earners. Middle class tax increase. The overall average will appear to be lower, but only because 1000 taxpayers will each get millions in tax savings. The average will look good, but more people will screwed.

 

That's a feature, not a bug.

 

People are funny about their deductions. MommaQuant religiously keeps those receipts for donated clothes, etc., even though since we refinanced a few years ago the standard deduction is our play. I tell her forget it ... she files ‘em away. Circle of life thing, I suppose.

I wonder if Jeff Sessions just got set up. If he were to go down for perjury or be forced to resign, Trump can hire a new AG who has not recused himself... who maybe fires Mueller?
