It’s 100% CYA because they know it’s likely to stay a GOP seat regardless. For starters, Moore won’t be expelled if elected. Talk is cheap. If he was expelled, the GOP governor would fill the seat. I give the Dems a 2% chance of a pickup.

All of this is fine with me. A Moore win is a bigger win for the Dems in the larger picture. Really, the Dems can’t lose here.

I am not ok with a child molester in the US senate because it might be some sort of xanatos gambit that helps my preferred party

Murkowski won a write-in Senate campaign after losing a primary in Alaska. I’d give Luther Strange a decent chance here.

The smart play would be have Luther run as a write-in - it would torpedo Moore and the seat comes up again in 2020. I think the GOP will face as much pain with Moore in the Senate as they would without him there.

Moore helps the Democrats if elected, whether he was a Ken Doll with no junk or he cruised bingo halls instead of junior high schools. Never mind the allegations.

He would hold them hostage on every close vote, demanding various people assuage his crazy. He would fuck Mitch just for the yuks and be Bannon's toy puppet of chaos.

    Also:

I feel like in all the talk about whether Horrible Bosses is an example of reverse sexism gone unpunished and whether or not Roy Moore ever violated the Paul Blart of Alabama's direct order to stay out of Claire's Accessories, we've missed an opportunity to focus on what pathetic little tools Assange and Glenn Greenwald were revealed to be today.

Assange being a pathetic little tool is not exactly a reveal.

Alabama GOP: Write-in campaigns, endorsing Roy Moore opponents 'serious error' for Republicans

The only reasonable write in would be Luther Strange. He just got resounding voted down over his covering for Governor Boobgrabber, but if it was him or a Democrat he might win. OTOH, Roy's voters might vote for him anyhow and screw things up. A wild card which is only barely possible at this point is Trump pushing out Jeff Sessions and his running as a write in.

I believe McConnell when he says he does not want Roy in the senate. That's a no brainer, Roy was going to be a pain in his ass anyhow. I imagine that there is a lot of pressure on the Governor to postpone the election, but boy would that be completely odious. I'd think that a court case by the D's might gain a little traction on that.
