You aren't receiving a subsidy if your state sends way more money to the Federal government than it receives back. It's the exact opposite. Year after year, Connecticut sends way more money to D.C. than it gets back (never mind a discussion about how inefficient that kind of allocation of people's capital is -- forcing people to send it to a corrupt, unaccountable entity that then spends it inefficiently and costs us in the aggregate).

Last year, if you believe what AP came up with when they did this. ... For every dollar Connecticut sent to DC, it got only 83 cents back. Regardless of whether that exact number is accurate, it's all but indisputable that Connecticut is one of the biggest losers in the country in that game. Connecticut isn't receiving any "subisidy." It's largely footing the bill for others.

Prosperous states subsidize poorer ones because poorer ones have more people eligible for federal government economic assistance. There is poverty in Massachusetts, but we are a prosperous state, so much of our tax dollars is transferred to states like Mississippi, whose poorest residents would face starvation if a majority of Mississippi voters had their way.

I understand that. The point was, it is dishonest for Steve Mnuchin to try to suggest that everyone else is subsidizing Massachusetts because of the state and local income tax deduction on Federal taxes. It is the exact opposite.

Perhaps it is just easier for you to control yourself in your fantasies. How have you handled such situations in reality? :D
