I wouldn't put too much weight into the thoughts of any child between 12-16, give or take. It's a notorious time for the dynamic with parents to be negatively skewed.

I know my relationship with my father was a fucking mess after he was forced to retire when I was 11. He had to try and come to grips with losing the work that had defined him for almost 30 years just as I was entering the most stressful part of childhood. Thank God no one asked me what I thought of him when I was 12. 100 percent my adult self would have been embarrassed by what I said.

Five years ago, I gave his eulogy. It is the proudest moment of my life.

It's not a cheap shot to say the relationship was cold -- in both directions -- when they were young. It's pretty well documented. A lot of children feel that way. Trump had a very complicated relationship with his own father, one that still seems to shape him today according to all of his biographers. Trump himself talks about how hard his old man was to please.

 

What is it with everyone and posts about pants today?

 

The trick is to not wear the tie too long.
