Lou Malnati's is not an avocado toast kind of place.

I have lived in Chicago for 3+ years and I'm a Lou Malnati's fan. I much prefer it to, say, Giordano's. I like Pequod's Pizza better, but it's a one-location place with long waits while Lou's is a mini-chain of larger places, for better and worse.

I'm also a native New Yorker, but I don't really get into the New York pizza vs. deep dish debate. In my mind, they're entirely different categories, both of which I enjoy for different reasons and in different contexts. Deep dish, to me, is more of a sitdown meal, while I associate New York pizza with a more spontaneous, quicker, on-the-go, by-the-slice, great-coming-home-from-the-bars experience.

    Now I'm hungry.

I actually like a Geno's or Lou Malnati deep dish but I would never want it all of the time. But once every couple of visits to Chicago is good on my end. I don't even conciser it pizza but I do enjoy a couple slices.

I was just joking about getting a monstrosity like a deep dish and being surprised it was too much.

You knew what you signed up for!

It really is too much. It's good every few years. Otherwise, thin crust is where it's at.

I really didn't. I had never had authentic deep dish before. I couldn't believe the weight of the box when they handed it to me. We took it to go and ran back to our hotel in the rain. It was very fun.

I had a lot of pizza that night. I loved it. But just so full afterwards.

Not as bad as the decision to join a fraternity.

This makes me think about that disastrous Styx show at the Texxas Jam in '83 when they were doing that stupid Mr. Roboto stuff after a great Sammy Hagar set.
