Some should study the 2018 battlegrounds. The Dems will be defending far more offices than they stand to gain. Their situation could actually worsen.

I think it's pretty well known what the Dems have to do to both defend and expand. The differences between 2016 and 2018 are pretty big. Hugely unpopular president. Republicans (not in Alabama or other deep reds) will be running with Trump looming over them, with his unpopularity, his (and Moore's) sexual misconduct), a deepening Russia investigation and two years of having done almost nothing. And if they pass this tax bill, the one thing they will have done is going to be massively unpopular.

Also, Hillary Clinton won't be at the top of the ticket.

If it was just a typical midterm, no hope in hell of the Dems gaining control of anything (though the party in the White House always loses seats in the midterms).

As it's shaping up, this will be anything but a typical midterm election.

Not saying it'll happen. But if it's ever going to happen, the conditions are certainly favorable to a Dem wave, regardless of whether or not the incumbent as an "R" next to their name. The "R" might be an albatross in 2018.

Or, as has happened many times before, I could be wrong.

Maybe, but the whole Russian-Mueller-FBI thing could flip, and the economy keeps rolling.

Yassssssss, it's been obvious from the start that Trump made Putin his personal little bitch boy.

Certainly could happen, yeah. I don't think the Mueller thing will flip, but it might not prove to be as damaging as it could be. Though an obstruction of justice case seems like it's being built, if noting else.

And trials of the already indicted are in the spring, leading into campaign season.

I'm also one to believe "It's the economy, stupid." Most of the time that's a sure bet. But the economy isn't all that different that what it has been for the last few years, despite Trump's lies. And that means it really hasn't changed for the white working-class voters who believed in Trump. If their lives aren't any better (or have gotten worse), what then.

Yep, whole lot of "ifs," and it's a long way away. But it should be a highly motivated Democratic electorate, which is a rare bird in midterms.

I like the wooden shackles locking up the guns. Like a chainsaw couldn't solve that problem in a few seconds.
