I don't think he meant to stop it (or neccesarily support it), but his action in calling it out, even mildly, helped push people into action calling and messaging their local Congress-critter. However inadvertently, he caused the thing to change course.

Turns out Fucko had the date of the intelligence briefing wrong in the first place. How can the president of the United States be expected to know the difference between "Tuesday" and "Friday." See, he's like a pretty smart guy.

That's fine, but that's not what the coverage said at all. It was "...after Trump blasts it!" or "...even the president-elect SLAMMED the plan!"

The last AP writethru I saw didn't make a single mention of constituent calls, let alone a groundswell of them, or any watchdog group response. It did, however, dedicate a half-dozen grafs to describing "what should have been a day of great pomp and circumstance," and how it "could give a glimpse of what kind of president Trump will be," as if he didn't spend the last two years auditioning for it.

Trump, at best, tepidly jumped on the pile after the sack has already been made.
