Good stat I saw on Twitter. As of today, the Berlin Wall has been down longer than it was up. Sometimes things work out well, even when it looks like they never will.

By the way, haven’t a majority of presidents won on their first try? I’d guess no more than 10-12 lost before they won.

It's a fine line between walls designed to keep people out and walls designed to keep people in.

Trump ran in 2012 (at least for a while), so it's irrelevant, really.

But to answer your question, just since 1960, Nixon, Johnson, Reagan & Bush the elder all ran at least once and lost before winning years later. Before that, I'm not sure.

Only four Presidents won after losing, Jackson, Nixon, Reagan and Bush 41. The latter two were defeated for nomination, not election before winning it all. Then there's Cleveland, who won his first time, lost his second and won his third, fucking up counting Presidents forever.

Trump lost in both 1968 and 1972 when his name was George C. Wallace.

It's a thick, and very long line, between walls spread the length of a medieval European city and ones the length of a continent.

He also lost in 2000 under his real name, and won 15,000 votes in a California Primary -- maybe because he had proposed Oprah as his VP?
