The "novice" in 2008 had been in government for a while, albeit in the legislative branch.

The novice in 2016 (and 2020) are going into the job with no government experience at all.
I've never understood the argument that the experience of running a business is more relevant to being President than being a Congressman or Senator.

 

The argument is that it is more of an executive role, akin to running a company, than a legislative role, akin to writing and passing laws within a legislative process.

It's not a terrible argument. It's why generals used to be popular presidential choices. They'd run something. The problem is that Donald Trump is not a real executive. He just played one on TV. And he's an idiot.

 

Comparing Obama's experience to Trump's or Winfrey's is yet another admission that the person posting has no intellectual honesty whatsoever.

 

It's certainly not a good one.
