I don't know him personally. The possible answers are 1) Yes. 2) He's stupid and doesn't know what he's voting for. 3) He's an extreme edge case who doesn't illuminate the issue.

I'm comfortable with continuing the proper characterization of Trumpists with any of those three.

In most cases, people don't fit neatly into slots, liberal or conservative. I try very hard not to make sweeping generalizations as a result. I had all kinds of FB friends saying "What's the big deal? The President said shit?" after the shithouse comment. I went with "It's not that he said that he said shit, or shithouse, it's that he said that he didn't want immigrants from shithouse countries like Haiti or Africa. He wants more from Norway. It is overtly racist to say you don't want more brown people, you want more nordic blondes instead. I know that everyone who voted Trump wasn't racist, lots of people simply couldn't stomach Hillary - but if he says something like this, people who don't speak up and say "Hey, that's not only wrong, it's outright unamerican" can very legitimately be described as tolerating racism.

Our wobbling wordsmith’s worries over certain facets of the immigration vocabulary — “merit,” “chain migration,” etc. — now being the domain of the “white nativist” strain is similarly intriguing. I did a bit of background reading yesterday and came away terribly concerned, seeing as how the commission whose work to this day informs immigration policy vis-a-vis these issues was chaired by that noted white supremacist Barbara Jordan.

Oh look, another person who thinks of themselves as understanding communication who is suddenly utterly confused as to how context could influence meaning when it's convenient for them. That never gets old...

Sage socialists who don’t know how to use reflexive pronouns never go out of style.

It's the second-oldest trick in the fascist book. Co-opt terms used by ordinary people, then have their apologists say "look, they can't be fascists, they're using the same words as normal people!"

The oldest trick is convincing their apologists that the real battle is to fight the other guy.

So are they “pussy hats” because they have pointy cat, i.e. pussycat, ears?

Can you believe authors of such as this aren’t punched out as fascists every day?
