"There is a wider group of people, dominated by political types, who say the Trump presidency is just as offensive as they always thought but has come with an alluring benefit: The chance for other nations to fill a power vacuum left by a U.S. retreat from global leadership.

“If America retreats so many [vacuums] are going to appear,” said Werner Hoyer, president of the EU’s European Investment Bank. “Which at the end of the day is an opportunity for Europe.”

Marietje Schaake, a prominent Dutch politician in the European Parliament is like many at Davos in loathing Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accords, among other things. Of his scheduled Friday speech here, she said: “With low expectations, it will not take much to exceed them. Still, at the end of the day, while words matter, actions always speak louder than words.”

It'd be funny if we come to find he did no such thing.

Paging @YankeeFan ... since you're so much better at spending hours mining teh Googles than the rest of us, would you please go back to January, 2010, and remind us again how many times President Obama bored us all with tales of his defeating John McCain? It's bound to have been well more that Trump's, right? I mean, he's only mentioned her no fewer than 230 times since taking office. TIA!

Again, the economy isn't the stock market.

And what wage increases? A bunch of companies are pretending this is some big windfall for employees because they're throwing them a few crumbs in the form of one-time bonuses that won't increase their wage base. It's a PR campaign.

Few large US companies say they'll use tax savings to boost wages, CNBC survey finds

I've been saying Trump is a rock star for a long time: he's belligerent, uninformed, contributes no tangible benefit to his fans, consorts with unsavory characters, has "secret" liaisons with porn stars.

In the fall of 2016, they shocked the world by storming to the top of the charts. But they were woefully unprepared for success and every day brought forth new controversies. Coming up on Behind the White House, a series of high profile departures, legal trouble and a cancellation of a key UK tour threaten to slow the band's momentum.
