So, just because OOP tried to make the claim that he’s just as religious as an orthodox Jew, we’ve gone down this rabbit hole.

It doesn’t change the general trend that Jews considered to be more religious (happy now?) tend to vote more Republican and Jews considered to be more secular vote more Democrat.

And Orthodox Jews aren't considered more religious, except perhaps by themselves.

Maybe there's some linguistic imprecision there that's confusing matters ... "fundamental aspect of" isn't the same as "central tenet of" (a phrasing you used earlier). I mean, celebrating Christmas (in some form or fashion) is largely a fundamental aspect of Christianity ... it's not a central tenet of Christianity.

I haven’t studied Christianity as much as Judaism and Islam. Not sure about the religiosity of all the Christian sects.

 

There are a lot of aspects that people may consider fundamental, but not all may agree that they are. It doesn't mean they are right or wrong.

One of the fundamental beliefs for Christians is keeping the Sabbath, which to them, is supposed to be Sunday, as a day of rest. Yet many Christians are NFL fans and many players consider themselves to be strong Christians. I'm sure they would appreciate you saying they are not truly Christian because they either are playing or watching football on the Sabbath.

 

What got us here was the notion Trump has somehow won the support of certain Jewish voters by taking an incredibly hard right line on relations with Israel.

The number of those conservative Jewish voters however, is very, very small. A subset of a subset.
