    I’ve never had understood the appeal of ANY parade. Military, Macy’s or the small-town festival.

    A group of people watching another group of people walk. Whee!

    New York held a ticker tape parade for the Gulf War vets.

    We’ve been at war for 17 years.

    It’s really not outlandish to want to honor those who have sever post 9/11 with a parade.

    There are Veteran's Day Parades all over the country, every year. The first one was held here in Birmingham in 1947. The parades like what you pictured above are held after a war is over, to honor those who fought. The war in Afghanistan is seventeen years old, and there is no sign that we'll be able to get out of there anytime soon, any more than we have Iraq or Syria.

    Or are you advocating that we simply declare victory and bring the troops home?

    As YF's photo proves, American military parades have traditionally been for when wars are over, not when they're still going on.
