Now YankeeFan thinks he can read the minds of the Russians who affected the election. Actually, he doesn't. He just likes proposing this idea because he hopes people will ignore the more likely possibility, that the Russians wanted Trump all along because they expected him to make a mess of things and perhaps because they had side deals in place with him and his people. (We don't know about that last bit. That's why the investigation is ongoing.)

They didn't fix it through the system they created. They fought a horribly bloody war, then made up some ad hoc rules that objectively defied the system in order to force through the changes that the system was specifically designed to make impossible.

Yes, we could absolutely do better. Much better.

Politically, we are a fractured mess right now and you think we could create one government for everybody? That's laughable.

They were fractured then, too. When it comes down to it, they'd be faced with the realization that nobody benefits from balkanization and something very similar to what we have no with some key modern changes would emerge.

Meanwhile, gerrymandering continues to be pushed back inch by inch.

In 2012, Republicans lost the total vote in the Pennsylvania 50-49 and won 72% of the seats (13-5). They got the same 72% of seats with 54% of the vote the next two elections. That's a 4-seat baked-in advantage in the House from a single state (for those who still doubt that gerrymandering makes much of a difference).

The state supreme court issued a new map that follows logical geographic boundaries and will almost certainly produce results in line with the voters of the state. So obviously Republicans are going to challenge it in federal court, but I doubt they get anywhere.

Bill Parcells went 3-12-1 in his first year with the Giants and had calls for his head. But he went on to do pretty well.

Belichick was 5-11 his first year with the Pats, and 0-2 when Bledsoe got hurt. Pats were his last chance at a head job, most likely.
