It's hard to know if the decline here was all or partly attributable to Rudy. Or despite Rudy.

For example, the NYPD stopped doing 'stop and frisk' a couple years ago. And crime went down.

 

Radical white terrorism continues to be a major security threat.

 

I think you would have to use Chicago as a microcosm of the larger problem and debate. (As you know, it is always brought up by gun nuts as an example of how strong gun laws don't work.) If you had some good characters—a homicide detective, a vicim's family, a gang, hell, President Obama—to make it an emotional and not just intellectual exercise, as well as some of Chicago's history folded into it... You start with the St. Valentine's Day Massacre and work out from there... A non-fiction version of The Wire, but with guns instead of drugs... Could be a great book.

 

Kind of exactly my thoughts. Hmmm ... now the wheels are turning.

See, though, the Chicago violence isn't by "gun nuts." In fact, most "gun nuts" don't commit violence. My friends are "gun nuts." Hobbyists.

 

I know. Just tweaking type. Pretty sure most of the Chicago mentions in this context around here are by a poster who lives there and a poster whose family lives there.
