They always wanted tanks. In fact, they had tanks - or at least armored cars - going back to the 1930s.

That scene with the APC in 'Die Hard' didn't come out of nowhere. Darryl Gates, the LAPD chief at the time, was crazy about them, and used them all over Compton and South Central for drug busts.

What changed everything was 9/11. The feds sent money to every local PD in America for "preparedness."

I was just in a Subway getting a sandwich and CNN had a chyron up to the effect of "Four countries were discussing Kushner's vulnerability to financial and business pressure." Nothing up on Google news about it as yet.
