Electrolux halts $250 million project in Springfield after Trump's tariff announcement

After announcing in January a $250 million plant expansion in Springfield, Sweden's Electrolux reported Friday that its plans are now on hold.

Reuters reported that the company, Europe's largest home appliance manufacturer, was delaying its Tennessee investment after President Donald Trump announced Thursday new tariffs on imported aluminum and steel.

 

They've done that forever. Take a look at how Lester Maddox got elected governor sometime.

 

The more I think about the steel tariff the less sense it makes. Imported steel costs 25% more than domestic, so demand shifts to domestic sources. Result: increased prices for domestic until it approaches the price of import. Steel in general then costs 25% more.

Damn near everything manufactured in this country uses steel, and if it doesn't, the machinery to make it does.
