Most places that are not big cities are similar. Indiana and Arkansas, for instance, are basically the same state.

 

Be interesting to see if there's any cause-and-effect reason for that drop in Oscar viewership.

Indifference? Boycotting the thing on behalf of #MeToo? People streaming instead of watching ABC? Fewer people caring about movies, because fewer people go to the movies?

The only way to prove that conservatives tuned out the liberal wisecracks would be to show a huge drop in the quarter-hour ratings at the top of the show.

 

I hope these two go to prison for a long time. Fuck them and their kind.

 

I feel like the Oscars used to be a celebration of movies that people loved throughout the year. Now, they are largely used as an advertisement for movies that have only recently (in large part) come out, due to the evolution of an "awards season."

One point about the CA ammo ban. You can still buy an unlimited amount of ammo. You now have to buy it in person at a gun store or have it shipped to a gun store who will charge you a fee. So the only effects are to make ammo more costly, inconvenience gun owners and to steer more profit to gun stores.

Limiting the amount of ammo that one could purchase in a month/year you can argue for. The CA law is just bureaucratic stupidity. If you go hunting out of state you would now have to ship any leftover ammo to a gun store, you could not have in your luggage or car.

Thoughts and prayers didn't stop priests from molesting kids, so why would it stop a layperson from committing a massacre?

 

They're like those bike races in the Olympics, you pedal around a bit, then sprint the last lap. I think a big part of the Oscar campaign is hitting the Toronto festival in the fall. If your movie gets a good reception from critics, they can talk it up for two months before it releases in December and slowly expands to various markets through January gaining wider acclaim, just in time for the nominations.
