We've actually been pretty fortunate that the rest of the world has been fairly calm during Trump's presidency. At this point in his first term, President Obama had the economic meltdown/recovery, the market hitting its bottom, the swine flu outbreak, the Haiti earthquake, and in April of 2010 Deepwater Horizon. (and that's just the stuff that the US would be expected to take a role in dealing with).

Cyberattacks Put Russian Fingers on the Switch at Power Plants, U.S. Says

The Trump administration accused Russia on Thursday of engineering a series of cyberattacks that targeted American and European nuclear power plants and water and electric systems, and could have sabotaged or shut power plants off at will.

United States officials and private security firms saw the attacks as a signal by Moscow that it could disrupt the West’s critical facilities in the event of a conflict.

They said the strikes accelerated in late 2015, at the same time the Russian interference in the American election was underway. The attackers successfully had compromised some operators in North America and Europe by spring 2017, after President Trump was inaugurated.

In the following months, according to a Department of Homeland Security report issued on Thursday, Russian hackers made their way to machines with access to critical control systems at power plants that were not identified. The hackers never went so far as to sabotage or shut down the computer systems that guide the operations of the plants.

Still, new computer screenshots released by the Department of Homeland Security on Thursday made clear that Russian state hackers had the foothold they would have needed to manipulate or shut down power plants.

The wall is a Russian plan so that when they shut down the power and invade Americans will be trapped north of Mexico.

The greatest cyberattackers in the history of cyberattackers always manage to leave their grubby fingerprints behind. Truly amazing combination of genius and idiocy, n'est-ce pas? These people apparently are capable of doing EVERYTHING . . . except hiding their tracks. A critical thinker might find that paradox interesting. :)

Putin could fire a missile on Fifth Avenue and not lose your vote! :)

A note likely would be found amid the rubble that says "Launched by V. Putin. And no one else." And we'd breathlessly go, "See? See? We have proof!" :)

Oh, come on. Nothing that Russians carry out at this level – election meddling, global hacking, assassinations – goes on without Putin knowing about it, and especially if they are sustained campaigns. Do you actually believe otherwise?

"Trump’s bullshitting is integral to his success in fomenting tribalism and polarization. He has created a political movement where his followers will believe whatever he says, no matter how patently false, and disbelieve whatever his opponents say, no matter how objectively true. Only 20 percent of Trump supporters, for instance, believe that his lawyer Michael Cohen paid hush money to the porn star Stormy Daniels, even though that is an undisputed fact: Cohen has admitted as much."

    Worse Than a Liar

"Trump’s continued B.S. as president illustrates how he’s willing to sacrifice broader policy objectives for his short-term political needs. It’s also turning the president into an laughingstock globally."
