President Trump: The NEW one and only politics thread

So let's say Trump fires Mueller (and doesn't replace him) figure A) - the material ends up at the WashPo or NYT by end of business. and/or B) Congress invites him to testify. (There are enough Republicans that would want him there just to yell at him).

How does the President end up okay with this?

 

The rule of law already lost to Trump. He openly admitted firing the FBI director for investigating members of his campaign. That was what Nixon was forced to resign for even attempting to do.

There will be no legal comeuppance for Trump. Only possibly an electoral one.

 

Or C) a whole batch of sealed indictments, ready to go the minute Mueller is sacked, is dropped at the front door of Trump Tower.

 

I think that nails it. Mueller has been building his cases, but releasing the indictments would reveal what he knows, who has been testifying to what, and what his priority investigations are. He's been accumulating his cases and then updating them as new facts come to light. I would bet that all of what he has is kept current, updated weekly.

It's not like Trump's going to execute a surprise attack here. The whole damn country knows that Trump has been itching to fire Mueller for months. Mueller knows that Trump meant for Comey to be left standing at the airport without a ride home when he was fired, and he's not going to be caught out. Either he has a deputy with standing orders to execute if something happens or he has an action plan all drawn up for his successor, or both.

 

Maddow has copies of what are supposed to be the notes taken by Dana Boente, who was temporarily in charge of Comey's Trump-Russia investigation after Sessions recused himself. Comey called Boente the morning after he met with Trump and relayed what was said, and Boente took notes as they talked. These contemporaneous notes match nearly exactly with Comey's testimony to Congress with regard to his meetings with Trump.


This looks very big in terms of an Obstruction of Justice case.

One would hope so, but one would need faith in the system, corrupted as it is. The Republicans in Congress cannot be trusted to do the right thing, as they are currently under some form of mind control similar to what Vincent Ludwig had on Reggie Jackson in "The Naked Gun!" to try and assassinate the Queen.
