    Likewise, should government be able to say being gay is a disease and mandate parents to force teens to have conversion therapy?

    A parent who would defer to the state over life-and-death decisions for their child is a bad parent and worse human being.

    That is largely because views on it didn't evolve until very recently. Most of those state-level bans were passed within the last 3 years. There are bills in a couple of dozen other states pending right now. Its gaining traction. There has been a big push by some psychiatric groups and associations to get those bills passed. I think we are probably going to see more of them. Two of the state-level bans were signed into law by Republican governors. Attitudes are evolving, thankfully.

    Science question ... which — conversion therapy or implicit bias training — has a better track record of effectiveness?

    Interesting too, that "conversion therapy" can be banned because it's quack "medicine."

    Exorcism - with which "conversion therapy" has everything in common - cannot be banned, because it falls under the religious protection of the 1st Amendment.

    Is there case law standing for these two things? Can you link to them (or news coverage) if there are?
