I'll cop to buying the Perry story too easily

I didn't read the Perry story until this morning, but did the NYT really think it needed no corroboration at all?

Even the quote, which ostensibly "supported" the assertion, did no such thing, whether taken in or out of context.

Sure, I support DeVos. She brings a different way of thinking about education that is desperately needed in Washington.

She has more knowledge of the subject at hand than many previous agency and department heads:

That's an . . . interesting way of putting it.

Certainly the great grizzly bear menace will finally be put to rest. So that's a check mark in the "pros" column.

God I hope we are being overreacting laundry dramatists and all we get out of the next 8 years is the Kansasification of the country

You couldn't even put together three sentences supporting DeVos without attacking somebody else. That is exactly what you did in the third sentence. You started talking about other agency and department heads rather than her qualifications.

What about her thinking is better? Try actually supporting it. Is it the plan to take funding from public schools that you like? The plan to put religion back in the classrooms? Please, enlighten us.

    I'm interested in this, too.

You are correct. There are billions of reasons that she is qualified.

Agreed. I hope in the future we look embarrassing. I'm fine with that.

But will it be the state of Kansas? Or the oblast of Kansas?

The cost is negligible to the dealers. Given the bulk deal they get on oil and filters through the manufacturer, it might cost $8 per change. The guys doing it are making minimum wage. So total cost for one oil change to the dealer might be $20-25.

You're right, they're trying to play a long game with the customers. In a well-run dealership, the service department alerts the sales guy when one of his customers brings in a vehicle. The sales guy swings by and chit-chats for a bit to build a relationship. If it's somebody who has bought several vehicles, maybe the sales guy takes them to lunch or the GM or owner butters them up. If the vehicle is four or five years old or has high mileage, you start sniffing around if they're ready to trade it in. You mention some incentives, because the boss needs exactly that make and model for the used car lot.

But most dealerships don't do that. They put up hurdles to the free oil changes for life because they don't want you to cash in those coupons. It's why you can get an oil change in 30 minutes for $50-60 at a quick lube or spend half a day getting a free one at the dealership.

Has DeVos spelled out a plan to "put religion back in school"?

If so, could you point me to this plan, so I can give you my opinion of it?

When you say she wants to "take funding from public schools", are you referring to vouchers? Something else? Please be clear, so I can give you my opinion.
