    Yeah, I read it.

    Just to state the obvious, Canada didn't gain its independence until 1867.

    It's like declaring the French and Indian War a conflict between France and the United States.

    Aside from the obvious. ... The "there were also many Canadian-born troops" is a stretch, at best. The British attacked DC in retaliation for American attacks on British territory that is now Canada, but the actual troops that attacked DC were British -- it wasn't a force of Canadians. General Ross who led their raid (he was Scottish, for what it is worth) actually led a force that had just finished fighting the Peninsular War against Napoleon (which had zero to do with Canada).

    It's specious at best, but that is always the case whenever Trump says something dumb and people try to twist themselves into a pretzel to convince others that he isn't a bullshit artist.
