The decline in undocumented immigrants from 2008 on is mostly attributable to the financial crisis and recession and the collapse of housing-related industries. No jobs to immigrate to. Undocumented needless to say first to be laid off.

Yeah, he's never been banned before. He was just on vacation . There are several other "meanie heads" who have left (voluntarily or not). Looking at the voices on this board, and this thread specifically, it really is a wonder why Hillary lost. How could that be possible? Since everyone agrees how shitty Trump is, who could have possibly voted for him? Maybe sportswriters are just better people than the rest of the country.

The fact that @heyabbott is allowed to spew his hateful verbal diarrhea, while others have been ruled off or scorned, is a joke.

Three million more people voted for her than for Trump.

Correct. 48% to 45.9%. Trump's approval rating is about 43% now. The vast majority of this board views him as a buffoon and an embarrassment (as do I). So...

Andrew Sullivan, making good - if unpalatable - sense.

"If all this sounds like appeasing a bigot, I understand. But better to see it, I think, as a way to address the legitimate concerns, fears, and worries of a large number of Americans who feel like strangers in their own land, and whose emotional response to that has been to empower the white nationalist right. It’s also simply the moral thing to do to relieve real human misery on the borders. It’s good politics too, I’d argue, for both parties in the medium term. At some point, the GOP will need to drop the appearance of bald-faced racism, callousness, and brute force, if they are to survive anywhere outside their base. And equally, the Democrats who are currently posturing are playing a good card badly. They give off the appearance, as Hillary Clinton did, of making no distinction between legal and illegal immigration, favoring de facto open borders, and calling anyone who disagrees with them a white supremacist. Until they recognize that illegal immigration is a huge and legitimate problem, and until they propose a set of actual policy proposals to end it humanely and efficiently, they run the risk of another 2016 in 2020."

If We Want to End the Border Crisis, It’s Time to Give Trump His Wall

Yes but they were all illegal immigrants. Pig vomit is busy locking them all in cages, their kids too, so he won’t have that problem in 2020. If we even have an election.

    ffs

Sorry, but Andrew Sullivan is a Bell Curve racist, who now apparently wants to reward Trump for taking hostages.

The “problem” of illegal immigration will not be solved by a wall. It will be solved by businesses not hiring undocumented immigrants. Until we are truly ready to endure that hit to our economy, there will always be people crossing the border to get that work.

Trump was already offered this deal, and he refused. If offered this again, but with a bit more, he'd dance around and then back away again. It is complete moronic punditry to think that any of this is going to appease him. Sullivan ought to fucking know better. We've already been here. He rejected it.

Meanwhile, the president is autographing pics of dead kids, like they are trading cards.
