First off the start of the 40 hour work week in the US started around the last 1700's when carpenters went on strike for a 10 hour work day and it grew from there. Secondly, they are hardly liberal. They started in the free market Thirdly, the Civil Rights Act was passed by almost every Republican Congressman and Senator. Lastly, it's logically fallacious to argue "these liberal things were years ago therefore liberals today aren't crazy". Nice try though.

By this logic, in large part because of the Trump tax cuts we are seeing strong economic growth, therefore NOTHING he does is wrong or crazy. Yes. that's how stupid your argument is.

You are confusing the Republican Party, the Democrat Party with liberalism and conservatism. The maintenance of the status quo is the essence of conservatism. Therefore, the maintenance of slavery was a conservative act. It was part of the democrat party at the time. Using your logic, the Democrats are the most conservative partyin the history of the United States.
The Federalist Party may be the most liberal, since the alternative, in context, was a monarchy, even a Parliamentary one.
