The outpouring of anti trump Republicans --schmidt, wilson, etc.--have made me rethink how I feel about conservtives as a group. I have great respect for what they are doing and when we are on opposite sides again---and we will be--I hope to always remember this and be --for lack of a better explanation--kinder to their existence. I will look for that Batman post also.

I think it would be useful for greetings--happy such and such day---or announcing things like--It is infrastructure week--We are working on -insert issue here--pay attention americans and participate in the process. I think it could be used in a fantastic way.

We finally have a president who really wants to share his feelings with us. They're weird feelings, but an interesting venting nonetheless.

There is nothing horribly wrong about the concept of charter schools. But conservative charter schools are just a facade to create separate schools. Siphon off the good kids with motivated parents and leave the public bereft of complete funding and talented experienced teachers. It’s just grooming a lower class for menial jobs, coal miners and fodder for privatized correctional facilities.
For profit charter schools are just Betsy devoss frauds. And trump is a fraud promoter. His Trump University was an actual fraud. Conservatives are making class more permanent by creating the most ineffectual public schools. The goal is to nearly eliminate what they call government schools in favor of tax rebates, refunds or tax reductions equal to the amount of household tax payments for public schools. The rich already send their kids to private schools. The professional middle class works its collective asses off to find suburban jurisdictions where public education is a priority and the cost of homes in quality school districts weeds out many African Americans and Hispanics.

I always love this take. Dems always love a Republican who will attack his own party, or presidential nominee.

Hell, they loved John McCain until he was the Republican nominee.

But, I never see this same kind of respect -- even if there's disagreement with them -- when guys like Zell Miller, Joe Lieberman, or Ed Koch support Republicans for President, or criticize their party's nominee.

    Why is that?

Gosh, I'll never forget how much Zeke hated Lieberman for not accepting the results of his 2006 Senate primary, and running -- and winning -- as an independent.

"this take" is my opinion on how I plan to look at things going forward. Also, it is not because they are attacking their own party--even though it does deserve to be attacked--it is because they see the undisputable, undeniable, crystal clear fact of the matter that trump is a traitor and danger to the country and are speaking out about it. (very important) I respect them for that and will remember that they did that. I will remember those that did not.
That does not mean that I will support issues that I disagree with. But I will have more respect for their opinion. And grateful for their support of the USA.
I don't speak for other democrats and I don't know who Zeke is.

Should people never criticize or in your words attack their own party?

and, lol, do republicans like dems who criticize their own party?

For some reason I remembered this comment and found what you were referring to whilst refreshing my memory on the exchange that got this whole shindig started last night. Wanted to clear something up.
That "respect the office" comment was a joke, inspired by one of @Slacker 's previous posts. It was a reference to Derek Jeter's fawning retirement tour that went over your head.
