    Re: wildland firefighters

Saw this just now, thought those talking about it earlier might enjoy it.

What it’s like to fight wildfires in the West

(Political angle: We need to increase the Forest Service budget to pay for combating these fires.)

I'm not sure "setting" a starting salary equals Communism.

If Richmond doesn't get enough qualified applicants at $41000/year, it can always reset the starting salary higher.

Your version of a gotcha always turns into a self-own.

Who do you think sets the salaries of civil servants? Police? Soldiers? Anyone employed by the government? Do you think they choose their own salaries?

Let's take it to private enterprise. Did you choose your salary? Or was it set by somebody else?

I had no idea that capitalism meant deciding your own salary.

Here's my issue. In a perfect world, we'd all make more. We all face barriers to that end, and that sucks. But -- and apologies to PC for this quick bit of plagiarism -- it is AMAZINGLY stupid for a person who has argued that everyone in HIS profession should fight for and receive every cent they are worth (I agree), then turn around and say people in another profession should have their pay cut AND, if that was done, who cares because they won't quit, LOL! Doing such a thing speaks to an utter lack of understanding of economics and, more importantly, reality. It is an AMAZINGLY stupid argument and an AMAZINGLY obtuse bit of hypocrisy.

Of course you should fight for every cent. If American doctors were civil servants, I would expect them, like our civil servants, to be unionized, and to fight for their salaries and benefits. I would also expect the government would not pay them a million dollars a year, because that's insane. And if they demanded that, I would expect the government, spending my tax dollars, not to pay it. And then they would have to come to an agreement that both sides felt was a reasonable salary. Say, oh, $250,000 a year.

That's how the world AMAZINGLY works.

When he hits one OB, he really hit it OB. Not that it's counted, of course ...

Let’s see if Trumpists can uphold their end of the bargain in the First Amendment; the part that says “peaceably to assemble.”
I’m going to guess they can’t do the peaceably part.

This is pretty dead on my thinking, at least through the first three paragraphs. I think Mueller has this process dialed in and he's controlling the pace and what is revealed when. He's been very shrewd. He's sitting on a drawer full of sealed indictments and he can use them as strategy/tactics indicate.

I don't doubt that Trump's idiots have done enough to constitute conspiracy borderlining treason. I don't know that it was ordered by Trump, although I think he'd go along with it rather than attempt to put a stop to it. I don't think that was Trump so much as their own fumble fingered stupidity combined with Putin playing opportunist.

I've seen some very persuasive posts talking about a long time Trump family connection to the Italian mob in NYC, particularly money laundering. When the FBI broke the mob in the 80's, the Russian mob moved into the resulting power vacuum. Speculation is that Trump's money laundering was an associated business which was swept up in the reorganization. I'd bet that he has long time contacts the Russian mob which have both helped him and put him at risk. There are chains of command which run directly back to Putin's circle.

Go look over Lincoln's Bible on twitter. He's got pages and pages of articles and court cases involving Trump, his family and associates.
